Jazz Focus Salon Fee

The Focus Salon is a series of classes in which a particular genre of music is covered in depth over three sessions. Enjoy learning about and listening to music in the intimate setting of Tom's Venice home, with wine and cheese and lively commentary. Previous Focus Salons have covered African and Lusophone (Portugese-speaking) music. The new winter 2010 Focus Salon will feature jazz.

The great New Yorker writer Whitney Balliet once called jazz the “sound of surprise." Jazz is one of the most sophisticated and joyous musical experiences, yet also an elusive artform to some. Many music lovers have said, “I’d like to get into jazz, but I just don’t understand it.” The new jazz course will help remedy this. Tom is a long-time jazz lover, and will help unravel and elucidate swing, bebop, avant garde, and the current scene.

The Jazz Focus Salon will run on three Thursday evenings from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m., on February 25, March 4, and March 11. Please note, no refunds or cancellations after February 17. Class size is limited, so register early to reserve your spot. The cost is $250.00 for the series. Current KCRW members receive a 10% Fringe Benefits discount (proof of membership will be required at first session). Payment by cash, check, or credit cards accepted.

Tom is also offering his regular Music Salon series. Click here for more information about the 6-week survey course.
